MORNINGTON GYMNASTIC CLUB.

In submitting its sixth annual report, ihe committee explains that last season ilio club was passing through a transition period. -Many senior members retired owing to relnovsil end otlier pauses, and although the roll shows a membership of over 50 (average attendance 30), most of theso arc in their first year. Necessarily the quality of the work was not, 011 the whole, so high as has previously been the case. Monv new members showed considerable promise, jnd with further tuition should appear to advantage. The annual competitions of the Otago Gymnastic Association were held toward the close of ilie season, and the committee, desiring to support the association, ontorfJ two teams. It was found impossible, however, to send Iwo teams, and the team eventually sent down was not acceptable to the Competitions Ccmmitlee, so did not compete. The committee feds it necessary that rules, defining grades, elc.. should I*.framed by the O.G.A. for the better regulation of these competitions and recommends that the delegates be instructed U. bring the matter before the f\m meeting of that body. As matters stood last year, Hie club anpears to receive 110 benefit from being members of the association. During the season the long-talked-of shewer bath v.-as orected at a cost of £15. To raise funds a conceit was held, the larger part ot tie amount being raised. The sum of £5 ia still cwing, and it is hoped to pay this off early ill tils coming season. Sincere thanks are due to the Jlornington School Committee for its uniform kindness and for the valuable assistanco rendered to the club. An open night'was held 011 the 13th September,

Most, improved junior: J. Harvey. Good conduct, etc.: E. Laidlaw. Badges benriug the club's monogram were presented to junior members—F. Docherlv, A. Dochertv, W. Rutherford, H. By tho departure from Mornington of Mr lan Galloway (who has been appointed physical instructor to the Southland schools) tho club has lost a valuable oflicer and friend. Mr Galloway was captain of Ibe club for many years, and was ever ready to lend his experience and assistance. Tho Ladies' Physical Culture Club met regularly in the gymnasium during the winter. Owing to a- business transfer. Mr E. Old man foil net it necessary lo resign tho position of treasurer, Mr W. Noster, who was elected in his stead, presently resigned in favour of Mr 11. Crawford. Necessarily, tnese changes interfered with the receipts, and a. few amounts are still outstanding. Members of the George Street Club assisted at the concert, and on the open night members of the High Street Club attended. The committee is satisfied that tho club is proving of valuable assistance to the youth of tho district, and predicts a successlul career for the coming season.
