ORGANISER APPOINTED. (Per* United Press Association.) . AUCKLAND, March ,25. Major Norman L. D. Smith has 'been appointed general organiser to the National League of Now Zealand. Major Smith, who takes up bis duties immediately, was assistant secretary to the New Zealand Midland Railway Company, and was in ilia service of that company till its withdrawal from Now Zealand, during which time he was 'an enthusiast, in volunteering. He then served aa chief staff officcr under Colonel Penton and General Babington. Jlajor Smith was in South Africa during the war, and his services there aro most highly spoken of by Major M. E. Carthew Yorsioun, commanding the New Zealand Ilotshkiss battery. Oil returning from South Africa Major Smith was sent by tho New Zealand Government to Melbourne in charge of the Now Zealand contingent to meet H.R.11. tho Duke of York. Ho was subsequently responsible for the arrangements tor tho great military review held l before the royal visitors at Christchurch. Major Smith is intimately known throughout the New Zealand -Volunteer service, and many prominent Volunteers confidently predict tlie success of his work as organiser for the National League of New Zealand.
