SAWMILLERS' STRIKE.
(Pbr Ukitkd Pbess Association.) INVBRCARGILL, March 23. A strike has occurred at tJio Southland Sawmillilip; Company's mill boyond Orcpuki. The men objected to the ap|x)intmcnt of a hend busliman, and gave 24 hours' notice, 'flic mill manager sided wiht the men, and resigned. The mill has been temporarily closed down, but it is expected to resume pn Monday with a new staff. March 24. Tlio strike in tho sawmiiling industry is meantime a. small matter. Three of tlio Southland Sawmillinjr Company's men objected to working under tho recentlyappointed head man, and converted four others to the same way of thinking These seven gave 24 hours' notice, and the company accepted their resignations antj closed down. Tho manager states that tho mill \ will reopen on Monday, the places of tho men having been already filled. Several of the strikers had asked him to transfer them to other mills, ■ but under tho cic'cumstanees he nas not disposed to do £0.
