GUM-DIGGERS' UNION.
(Per United Press Association.) AUCKLAND. March 22. Mr Tregear. secretary of the Labour Department, arrived this morning for tho purpose of investigating certain grievances of tho fiunvdiggers' Union. 'Die annual meeting of this union will bo held at Waipu on the 26th, and tho head of Ihe Labour Department was invited to attend in order that the diggers might be able to lay liieir views on various matters More him. They desire certain amendments in the Kauri Gum Industries Act, and requested Mr Tregear's attendanco in order that ho might obtain their views at. first hand on the defects in the law. Mr Tregear replied that while ho was unable in his oflicial position to attend the annual meeting of any union, lie would visit Waipu when tho iuccting was in progress, and when diggers were assembled from all parts of the 'province.
