GYMNASTIC CLUBS.

The ninth annual meeting of the Arthur Street Old Bays' Gymnastic Club -was held in tho Arthur Street School Hall on Thursday evening. Jit J. King presided, in tho absence of Mr j. Loudon (president). There' woro about a dozen other members present. The following is Iho annual report:—"Tho committee, iu submitting tho ninth annual report, has much pleasure in stating that the operations of tho past season have 'been very satisfactory, but in regard to practice hopes to seo more enthusiasm shown. During tho season a concert and gymnastic display was given, which was a great success, tho programme being contributed to very largely by members of both clubs. At tho end of tho season a social and danco was held, a largo number being present, and a most enjoyable evening being spent. The balance sheet shows a very creditable leturn, tho sum of £G being in hand. The thanks of the club are also due to tho office-bearers of the club and also to the members of the School Committee for their kindly help and cooperation during the season. For the forthcoming year the committee hopes to see the most successful season yet hold by the club. Tlie lx>ys' competition, held in September, for two medals (presented by Messrs Kemnitz and Neil) resulted, after a keen contest, in the first prize falling to N. "Walcott and the second prize to J. Coutts (the captain of tho club), J. King acting as judge. During the year a football match was played against a Hanover Street Mission Hall team, resulting in a win for the club." Loudon (re-elected); vice-presidents, Messrs J. Kenmitz, B. Cameron, J. Edgar, aud AV. 11. Ferens; captain, J. King; deputy-captain, M. Murdoch; instructor, L. Downcs; secretary, H. Neil; committee—Messrs W. Dow, J. Bruce, S. Dewar, and IJ.1 J . Coutts, also captain, deputy-captain, secretary, and insiructor. Practice nights were fixed for Mondays and Thursdays in each week, tho first practice to bo held on Monday, April S. Tho meeting of the Arthur Street Ladies' Gymnastic Club was also held last evening. The following office-bearers were elected for the ensuing year:—President, Dr Emily Siedeberg (re-elected); vice-presidents, Messrs \Y. l!ul., Evans, and Balfour; instructor, E. Stevens; captain, Mis 3 Armstrong; decutycaptain, Miss K. liing; secretary, Miss Armstrong; committee — instructor, eajtain, deputy-captain, and Misses E. King and 11. Long.
