TREATMENT BY THE COLONIES. DISCUSSION IN THE HOUSE OF LORDS. ' Puss Association—By Telegraph—Copyright. LONDON, March 20. Lord Amptliill, in the Houes of Lords, asked if the Colonial Conference would discuss the question or the disabilities of British Indians and their future treatment by, the colonies. Lord Elgin (the Colonial Secretary), ill reply, said that while it was the Government's duty to show that it was the national protectors of- theso people, yet the Government was bound to consider the self-governing colonies and not to inllame the present strong feeling. Nevertheless ho hoped the subject would be discussed, at anyrote at a subordinate conference. Lord Lansdowno considered the question most difficult, owing to the two conflicting currents of opinions. He hoped care would bo taken to secure the proper treatment of Indian subjects, and to prevent their humiliation or being deprived of their rights. He added that for soma reasons it would be better if the subject were not officially presented for the coni'dcraliun of the Conference.
