RAILWAY ACCIDENT AT OAMARU.

As the morning train from Timaru was running into the Oamaru Station yesterday the engine, presumably in conscqucnco of somo defect at the points, ran on to a line on which were standing a waggon and somo trucks, which had come in from Ngapara. Tho engine-driver applied his brakes, but was unablo to pull up in time to save a. collision with tho waggon, which was smashed to pieces. aid tho contents— mostly eggs and freshly-killed pork—were damaged. A 16-ton truck next, to tho waggon was derailed, but othSriviso the damage -was very trifling. A gang of men. was at once put on to clear tho wreckage .iwav, and this was accomplished alter aJioufc an hour's work. Traffic was not interfered with, and no ono was hurt. An inquiry into tho matter will take placc.
