NORTH-EAST VALLEY SCHOOL CADETS.

Tho North-East. Valley School Cadets, accomffmicd by their parents, attended at the school last evening tci receive books anfl medals awarded for behaviour and special merit at the reeent Exhibition encampment at Christoluirch. In the absence of Mr Campbell (Hie chairman of the School Committee) Mr 0. Caldcr took the chair, and after Mr Murray (tho head master) bad explained the purpose of the mooting, mid given an account ot the proceedings leading up to the cadets' visit tq tho Exhibition, ot the behaviour ot the boys during tlio train journey to and Iro, and whilst in t.Vic camp, Mr CaMer presented the prizes, and in doing so congratulated the cadets upon the privilege they had enjoyed. William Beilly (Sixth St-aaidard). Andrew Donald (Fifth Standard), Percy Gray (Fourth Standard), and Charles Pizey Third Standard) received each a book for best composition in their respective standards, the subject, being the "Trip and Encampment." Walter Dowie (Fifth Standard), received a. medal presented by Mrs Young for behaviour in the camp and James Gray (Sixth Standard) a medal presented by Mr Lumley for attention in the post and telegraph department. Mr JTowat, a member of the School Committee was presented by Mr Calder, on behalf of the boys, with a

fountain, pen in recognition of his kindness to them in facilitating tlieir travelling arrangements, and in'returning thanks for the expression by the boys of their kindly feelings, Mr Mowat staled that he had inorolv dono his duty, as anyone placcd in his position would have (lone. Mr W. J. Robinson, on ..behalf of the parents of tile crdoU, presented the head master with a handsome travelling bag in recognition of his exceeding kindness and attention to the boys. Mr Thompson made a similar present to Mr Cook, the second assistant teacher at the school, as an tangible memento to hint of tho parents' appreciation of his unflagging zeal (hiring the whole period' of tho encampment in seconding Sir Murray's effort for the hoys' ainu-.ement and safety.
