FOOTBALL PAVILION AT PALMERSTON.

( Sin,—Mr Soitness states in your issue of the 19th inst. that I have lain dormant for 12 months, and also practically accuses me of making mischief. May I point out to Mr Soilness that the general meeting of tho Football Club is to bo held on the 20th inst., and that the public concert in aid of the football pavilion was not held until August, eo that Mr Clark could not. possibly have procured the contract 12 months ago. Mr Soilness complains of my not criticising (he action of the club or tho work of iho contractor until now. The reason is very easily explained. Mr Souncss and a few members of the club had the. whole matter in their own hands, and the remaining members of tho club were left entirely in the dark. Further, it was not until recently that tho remaining members of tho club wore aware w'ho had tho contract, nor were thoy aware of the design of the building until it being erected. During the last few day? I have interviewed two well-known contractors of this town, who. like the tnajo rity of other tradespcoule, are jealou* of one another's work. One told mo that he could build the same shed, of first-class timber, for the sum of £30 and have a handsome profit out of it. The other contractor goes a. little higher, and states that he could build tho samo shed for the sum of £55. and would like to build nothing else for the remainder of his days at. that figure. 'Whero does Mr Souncss find his small margin of profit? As I have thoroughly inspected tho building I and a mmilwr of others sincerely trust that the 0.R..F.U. will bring a contractor with them when they come to inspect the shed, and 1 am sure that Mr Soune.'s and his few followers will then admit that I am correct in my statement—that is. that the pavilion is not worth £50.I am, etc..
