LORD DAVEY. LONDON, February 21. Lord Davey, Lord Justice of Appeal and Privy Councillor, is dead. He was 74 years of age.

Lord Davey was tho son of Mr Peter Davey, of Torquay, and formerly of Horton, Buckinghamshire. He was born in the year 1833,' and was educated at Rugby, from which school ho was electoil to a scholarship at University College, Oxford, lie obtained a first class in Moderations, and also on taking his degree, and was subsequently chosen a Fellow of his college. Ho was also Senior Mathematical Scholar and Eidon Law Scholar, Ho was called to the Bar at Lincoln's Inn in Januaiy, 1861, and soon rose to emineliec as an equity lawyer. lie obtained a silk gown in 1875. Ho sat for Christchurch. Hants, from 1860 down -to 1885, when he was defeated. Ho was. Solicitor-general for a few months in 1886 under Mr Gladstone's Administration, and was elected member for Stockton-on-Tees, December 21, 1838. But in 1892 ho was not r-elected. In tho trial of the Bishop' of Lincoln he was counsel for tlio prosecution, and in the Berkeley Peerage case (1891) lie was leading counsel. In October, 1898, lie was appointed a commissioner to make statutes and regulations for tlio new or revised University of London. In September, 1893, he was* appointed a Lord Justice of Appeal in the pit, Ac of Lord Justice Bowen, and in the foil. Wing year was appointed a Loid of Appeal in Ordinary, ana was created a peer for life with the title of Lord Davey of Fernhurat. with the titlo of Lord Davey of Fcrnhurst. Lord Davey 'was an Hon.
