DUNEDIN CHORAL SOCIETY.
The second practice of the season was held on Tuesday evening in the First Church Hall, there being a good attendance. Already tlieio are a number of new members, and everything promises that this year will bo most successful. Tho tenth annual meeting of tho society will be held in the First Church Hall on Tuesday evening, When the annual report and balance sheet will be presented to tho members and officers for the ensuing year elected. During the 10 years that the society has been in existence it has given over 50 concepts, including those given in conjunction with Madame Dolores, Mudame Howie, and Mr Watkin AVills. It is only known by those closely connected with the society what the responsibilities are of engaging such artists as we have mentioned, for, whilst the society has always, up to the present time, come out on the right side, it has only been achieved by tho exercise of extreme care and. judgment. If the public of Dunedin wish to hea,r celebrated artists in such works as the Choral Society from time to time produces, they should at least guarantee the expense of such engagements, for it is more than can be expected that the committee should render themselves liable for the heavy fees which have to bo paid to such artists. The public has much .to thank the society for in tho manner ill which it puts its concerts before the public. Tho last production of "The Messiali" on Christmas Xight resulted in a heavy loss to the society, no doubt owing to the very hot weather which prevailed .that day, but for all that t;ie soloists had to bo paid and other expenses met.
