M.C'.C. v. HAWKE'S BAY. (Pis Unitkb Press Association.) NAPIER, February 22.' Tho M.C.C. team of English crickcteri commenced their match against Ilawke's Bay team this afternoon. The weather was beautifully line, and there was a very large attendance. The v.'ickot was in perfect order, the Home batsmen expressing the opinion that it was the best wicket they had plajwl on in the colony, The visitors won the toss and elceted to bat. CJurwen and Tufncll opened tho innings. The former played good cricket, timing and placing his liits nicely; while Tufnell opened out in vigorous style, punishing the bowling and scoring rapidly. With the score at 58 Dalgleish found his way to Curwon's wicket, the departing batsman having contributed 27. Torrcns then joined Tufncll, and the pair, hit out freely, 4 s coming to each in quick succession. Torrcns lost Tufnell with tho total at 159, of which Tufnell had made 85, his score including eleven 4's. Douglas followed, and hit hard and powerfully. When he had made 20 ho fell a victim to Da-lgleish. Williams joined Torrcns, but soon retired, Bums assisted Torrcns to carry the score I to' 274, when Torrens got out leg before to Fulton. Harrison was bowled after scoring 8. Page gave a good exhibition of frco bitting, but soon afterwards Burns was neatly < caught behind the wickets. De Traff or! took tho crease, only to see Page smartly stumped a few runs later by Hallamore.' Johnson joined his skipper, and runs came steadily until a well-judged catch by Cato disposed of Johnson, whose place was taken by Fox, the latter being bowled by Dalglcisll after he bad scored 10.
