EXHIBITION RIFLE MEETING

CHRISTCHURGH, February 19. The Exhibition rifle meeting was continued to-day in fine but dull weather. A strong breeze, which was rather tricky, lirevailed.

The Otago Match'was concluded. Sonntasj (Dunedin), with 31 at 600 yards, scoured first placo with a total of 98. Monroe (Murihiku) scowl 33 at 600 yards.' .luild (Karori), who was looked upon as a likely •vinner, got 32, and with Collclt (AA'aipawa) Jiiado up a quavtch wlio scorcd 98. Ilirains (Timaru) was the first, to register a. possiblo here, which gave him a. total ot 95. Burford (Timaru) got oft' the bull's-eye with liis fifth and lust shots, and put up 97. The only other good score was 33, made hy Anderson (Wanganui). The following is the, prize list: —

Tho Southland Match, 500 yards and 700 yards, was taken next. The wind had fres'liencd; but tho light was dull.' Hewlett (Ohnstehurch) and Lester (Christchurch) put on possibles, and Lyall (Oreti), Cox (Auckland), Bradley (Dunedin), Cook (Christchurch), Wain (Waimate), (Tiinaru), and Harbour (Dunedin) scorwl 34 each, At 700 yarcjs the scores all round were not up to form, this being accounted for by the heavy, jobbly drift, which puzzled 6hootists. Challenges were frequent, and a large number of., competitors did not get beyond single figure.?. M'Oalley, of tho Army Medical Corns, New South Wales, shot in fine style, collaring tlm range completely, and putting up 33. Next came M'.Murray, with 32; P. The West-land Match, at 200 yards and 600 yards, was started, but as there woro only four available for the 200 yards range the shooting was slow, only a few men finishing the range. Of these Lyall (Oreti) was the only one to put up the possible. Several others scored' 48 and downwards, but as so many have to finish tho scores made are of little moment for purposes of comparison.
