THE BAND CONTEST.
The railway station was thronged with an enthusiastic crowd on Thursday night when the sccoml express train arrived from Cliristchitrch with the Kaikorai Baud. Among those present were L'rs Burnett. London, White, and Scott. On behalf of the Reservos Committee, Mr Burnett gave the baud a hearty welcome home. Ho referred to tlicir splendid achievements, and said that, the band was the champion one of New Zealand, and given a fair trial would prove the champion of Australasia. Mr Burnett then callcd for throe cheers for the Kaikorai Band and three for the other bands. Mr Laid law, on behalf of the Kaikorai Band, thanked the, citizens for their warm welcome. The crowd then sang "For they are jolly good fellows," after which the Dunedin Pipe Band accompanied the band to the Octagon, where all dispersed.
