A Wellington telegram states that a cable message was received in Wellington yesterday morning from Loudon announcing the death of Vernon Wylic, only eon of Mr Andrew Wylie, of the firm of Messrs Skorrett and Wylie. Deceased was a, native- of Wellington, 53 years of age, arid served his time as engineer. He went to England about 18 mouths ago to study electrical engineering. The death was due lo appondicitis. An Invercurgiil telegram states that Mr T. W, Walker, who has been many yeara in the scrvico of the Invcrcargili Corporation as clerk, was practically unanimously appointed town clerk out of 13 applicants. Mr T. B. Fair-bairn, late town clerk of Dunedin, left yesterday on a. trip to the Far East. During an absence of about six months Mr Fairbairu will visit Japan, Hongkong Canton, etc. He is accompanied by Mm Foirlmirn, and on reaching Sydney in the Moriowai, will tako passage by the Willeliud iOr tbo East. Mt Fnirbaira's health has much improved, and he will combino business and pleasure during his tour. Mr Anthony Nathan was elected first Mayor of Taihape by a largo majority. Word lias been received in Oamara of the death of Mr Andrew Meldnun, of that city. He died at Cairo of typhoid fever. Mr J. Watt, railway guard, who has been transferred from Oamiru to Duncdin, left for his new home this week. The Milton Mirror stales that Mr and Mrs Fraser, of ClaTendon, celebrated their golden wedding on Monday last. In the evening the? were suited on by a surprise, party, consisting of some of their oldest friends and neighbours, and Mr Fraser was presented with a silver-mounted walking stick, while Mrs Fraser was the recipient ot a. handsome easy chair.
