They failed to capture P.ambaaia, who is believed to be again hiding in iho for?st. Mr Saunders, Commissioner of Native Affairs in Zuliiland, holds any chief responsible- through whose territory Bambaata has escaped. April 26. (Received April 26, at 11.59 p.m.) The Hon. T. Watt (Minister of Defence in Natal), in a. 6peech at Maritzbnrg, said thrre ha<l been too great a tendency to look to the professional soldier for defence, which should rest in local hands. The Transvaal contingent was a welcome surprise, promising a definite understanding between the South African Governments in the mat lev of defence.
