HIGH SCHOOLS BOARD OF GOVERNORS.

An ordinary meeting of the High School Board of Governors was held yesterday afternoon, Mr .1, R, Sinclair presiding. There were al;o present—Messrs J. M. Callaway and T. K Sidey, M.H.R., and Dr Church. An apology was received for the absence of Mr T. Mackenzie, M.H.R. The bank book was laid on the table, showing balances to March 13:-Xo. 4 account, £1021 lis (credit). No. 1 account, £226 19s 7d (c'obior). To credit on current account, £794 lis sd; Ic.-s outstanding hcquci /or February and March, totalling £'562 8s 4:1.

A k-tter was read from Mr W. I<\ Indcr, of Gore, who, on behalf of a syndicate at Wyndham. stated that the deposit of coal which it had been proposed to work could not be traced...and the project had been abandoned. The syndicate therefore asked for n, refund cf £6 ss, halt of ono year's rent on a five years' leaso undertaken.

The board (licensed the matter in committee, and decided that the one year's rent deposited must bo retained, the'lease for the remaining four years to bo turrendered.

Tiie Auditor-general wrote declining to withdraw his objection to an item charged for travelling ■ expenses, appearing in tho board's balance sheet for 1993-W. Tho item was charged for out of pocket, expenses (£l6 7s Ud). charged by a member and the secretary of the board on an official visit to Wellington two or three vcars ago. •"-Letter received.
