Baird (late of Duncdin) has just returned to London from a very enjoyable trip to Scotland, visiting Glasgow- and Saltcoats; he spent his .Christmas at Saltcoats, a place possessing special interest to him as his father was born there. Mr Baird says that the bracing and refreshing air of Scotland rominds him forcibly of Dunodin. Recently ho undertook a business 1 trip through the Midlands, calling at Leicester, Derby, Nottingham, Manchester, Liverpool, Birmingham, eta, and ho obtained an interesting general idea of theso important centres. Mr Ernest G. Mollison (lato of Dunedinj has just come back to London from Scotland, whoro he spent the Christmas holidays. Ho travelled by tho Midland railway, and stayed successively at Glasgow and Edinburgh. Then ho went to Saltcoats, and spent a very pleasant Christnmatidc with friends there. The New Zealand Shipping Company's s.s, Paparoa left Plymouth on tho Ist inst. outward-bound for the colony. Captain Japgard is in command, and Dr J. Eeid is tho mcdical officer 011 board. The testimonial ij signed by tho Duke of Connaught, in tho absence of tho Prince of Wales, who is president of the society. Tho death is announced this week of Mrs Isabella Macgregor Morris, widow of the lato Mr John Morns, contractor. Tho deceased lady passed away 011 tho 29th of December at Dairy road, Edinburgh: she had attained tho good old ago of 87 years.
