ST. HELEN'S HOSPITAL.

The niatron of St. Helens Hospital iHinoimoK, that a claimant for the spoon presented by Messrs Stewart Dawson and Co. for tho first boy (there is also one waiting for tlie first girl) horn in tlio Hospital arrived on the 4tl\ inst. Appended is the telegram received from tho Premier in reply to one sent to him announcing tho above. The matron also desires us to thank Mrs Murdoch Fraser, of New Plymouth, who has presented Master Alderton with a silver fork to commemorato her pleasure at being the first stranger to see the baby, and tho first visitor from New Plymouth (the matron's birthplace). Messrs Stewart Dawson and Co. have very kindly expressed a desire to initial both tho spoon and fork for Master Alderton. The matron thanks the Rev. C. S. Bowden for a cheque to form a nucleus of a library for patients' use, and Mrs R. N. Adams' and Dr Agatha Adams for numerous flower bowls and vasos for ward use. Tlio Premier wired:-" Delighted to hear good new 3. Hope tlie little stranger may livo long to keep the spoon, and not require to be spoon-fed. I trust also that tho mother of tho little stranger is doing wcli. Much appreciate the introduction of my name, by which I feel highly honoured. He must bo a saucy little cliap, as tlio ride generally is ' ladies first,' but I liopo a representative of the gentler sex will soon claim tho other spoon.
