MR FISHER'S SILVER JUBILEE.

The head ofliee staff of Hie Standard Fire and Marino Insurance Company met in the hoard room on September 29 to mako a presentation to Mr T. It. Fisher on the completion of twenty-fifth year of service as general manager of the company. -\lr John Hcid (chairman of directors) orcsmcd, and other directors nresont were Messrs D Haynes, John jfill, and the Hon. P. lergus. Tho Chairman, onjioliiilf of the staff, presented Mr Fisher, with a beautifully illuminated address of congratulation, expressive of the respect and esteem in which he was hold by them, and along with this he also, on their behalf, presentod a case o? silver table service for Mr Fisher and a rose-bowl for Mrs Fisher. Dear Sir—Hie attainment of your silver, jubilee as general manager of the Standard Fire and Marine Insurance Company of 2s r cw Zealand marks an epoch in the history of the company calling for tho sincere congratulations cf the managers and officers, not only at the head office, but also at its branches and nancies throughout the colonies »nd Britain. Your control of the company's affairs since your appointment in September, 18SQ, no 7? a quarter of a century ago, has been marked by ft steady, continuous, and solid progress in tho company's business, and tho managera, agents, and officers throughout the company's For* Vicc feel that they cajmot allow the occasion to pass without placing' on record their appreciation of your- many estimable qualities, and the pronounccd skill, tact, and energy displayed by yim in the performance of your official duties, which have won for you tie respect, and admiration of the whole staff. T. Fergus, speaking on behalf of'the directors, said that ho Imd listened with tho liveliest. ploa6uro to the praise of the general manager that had fallen from the lips of life staff. Every word 6aid in-Mr-Fisher's honour appealed to him as a''director. It was intensely gratifying, first of .all, to'know that tho general manager of> tho company was a gentleman.-— (Applause.) All credit was duo to tho members of tho staff who initiated this presentation, Tho directors had also thought, of some slight presentation on their own account, but the staff had forestalled them in the most handsome manner. But the staff would permit tho directors to como in at the tail end. _ On behalf of tlio directors, then, on their behalf as representatives of the shareholders, ho asked Mr Fisher to accept, tho clock and side-orna-ments' beforo him, as an evidence of tlio goodwill, esteem, and high respcct in which ho was hold by them all.--(Applause.) Thero was also a small case of silver which ho would ask Mr Fisher to hand to his wife. Mr Fisher had the best wishes of tho directors and shareholders for his long lifo and prosperity, and the directors trusted that they would meet in that room with him as their manager for very many years to come.—(Applause). Having a business manager such as Mr Fisher, with a single eye to protecting the shareholders- and doing the best possible for the public, tho company could compete with any other institution of tlio kind, whoever might bo tho father of it.

Mr Fisher briefly repeated his former acknowledgments, and a very pleasant and friendly gathering came to a close. The case of silver tableware presented to Mr Fisher was a very valuable one. A votq of thanks was accorded to the chairman
