OTAGO RUGBY FOOTBALL UNION. . The usual weekly meeting of the Otago Rugby Union, held last evening, was attended by Messrs ]?, H. Ciimpbcll (president), J. Hutchison, G. M'Laren, W. Wilkinson, P. Priest, A. Doy, H. Sincoek, V. Cavanagh, ,G. Dunn, W. Wilson, and Dr Crawford. Tlio Secretary of tho Dunedin Criekot Club wrote asking for tho use of tho Caledonian Ground after tho 23rd inst. to enable the caretaker to got on with tho top-dressing in timo for tho cricket matchce, which commcnco in October. A similar request was received from tho Dunedin Amateur Ground Company in respect to the Carisbrook Ground.—Both applications were granted. A. E. Lawry wrote asking for Tebato on official programme, the rights and privileges of which ho had received from tho Otago Union at a cost of £10.—It was decided to grant a rebate of £5. • The application of tho Ravensbourno Club for permission to play a team from tho Waikouaiti Club was declined. Tho Secretary of tho Maniototo Club, who attended in .person, mado application for a town referee to act in tho A T incent County match at tho cxpenso of the O.R.F.U.—It was decided to grant tlio application. Tho Second Fifteen of tho Port Chalmers Club asked for permission to travel to Waikouaiti on September 16 to play a team from the. Waikouaiti F.C.—Applica-' tion dcelincd. A letter was read from tho Reserves Committee of the City Council asking what amount tho union proposed to contribute towards making the reservo in Oargill road fit for rcoreation purposes.—Consideration deferred. , The Secretary of the North Otago Subnnion wrote, ro tho match against an Otago team to be played at Oamaru on Thursday, September 14, advising that North Otago would bo pleased to meet an Otago team on that date.—Tho Slecrctary stated that all arrangements had been mado in connection with the match. Numerous applications for use of grounds wero considered.—lt was deoided to grant tho Dunedin Tramways Football Club tho use of Tahuna Park for the match lgainst the Post Office on Saturday, September 16. Cavorsham Presbyterian Young Men's Club was granted tho use of Forbury for tho match against tho Wesleyan Young Men's Club. Dunedin Drainage Board was granted tho use of Tahuna Park for September 16, and the Railway Goods F.C. the ;iso of Tahuna Park for Wednesday, September 13. Tlio application of the Port Chalmers Club for the expenses of the Port team in travelling to Balclutlia to play Owaka was granted. The Hon. Secretary of the Canterbury Rugby Union wrote informing tlio committee that at a meeting of the Canterbury Rugby Union tho following resolution was carried—" That tho various unions in Now Zealand be communicated with to ascertain if they will support a proposal to remove the headquartors of the New Zealand Rugby I Union from Wellington."—Tho Chairman thought it would be better to do away with the New Zealand Kugby Union altogether. Before the New Zealand Union had been established they had had no difficulty in arranging interprovmcial' matcho' and so far as ho was personally concerned ho could not see that the New Zealand Union served any useful purpose. It was his opinion that it was a useless institution.—Jlr Sincoek echoed the opinion of the chairman. He thought they could get on very well without the New Zealand Union;—Mr Dunn stated that wliilo ho voted against the Otago Union' becoming affiliated to the New Zealand Union, he thought that now tho parent body was established they should pull together.—Mr Doy was of opinion that the headquarters of the New Zealand Union should bo movablo, with a three or five years' tenancy in each centre.—Other sneakers spoke in a similar strain.—After further discussion, during which members explained that it was not quite clear from the Canterbury Union's motion whether it was intended that the headquartors of tho New Zealand Union should be removed permanently from Wellington or only temporarily, the following motion, moved by Mr Wilkinson, and seconded by Dr Crawford, was carried —"That the Canterbury Union be asked for further information, and that tho matter lie placed beforo tho' delegates at the annual meeting."
