The Secretary, Education Department, Wellington,—The settlers ot Omakau are now getting impatient about tho education of their children, and, as they aeo that there is no chance of a footbridge being erected across the Manulisrikla River at Blacks in (rime to enable their children to attend school this summer they nsk that tile usunl allowance be made for tho conveyance of the children. I have to explain that tho distance from Omakau to Blacks School by the bridge is a little undtr three miles. Several of the children, however, live at a considerable distance beyond the township, and are over three miles from the Blacks School. I am to ask if the Minister, under the circumstances, would Sanction tho usual allowance for the conveyance of the children. As (he settlers nre very, anxious about the matter, I would he glad of an curly reply .-(Signed) I'. G. I'iivdk Secretary.
