THE EARTH HUNGER IN' CENTRAL OTAGO.
TO THE EDITOR. Slit,—Last winter iwo petitions praying for the immediate resumption for closer settlcniMit (1) of I'likctoi anil Linnburn, and (21 of tho whole of Blackstonc Hill and Ida 'Valley Stations, and . signed by 400 and 200 residents respectively, were sent to Parliament. Tho Lands Committee recommended both of these to the Government for favourable consideration, but lathing further has been heard of tho matter. The Minister of Lands has been nsl-cd several times what he intends to, do. bur no satisfactory answer can be got. Another petition which is being circulated will shortly be forwarded to him, hut no doubt he will manage to shufflo out of it this time aho. Evidently tho capitalists arc pulling, the strings at the other end, and our worthy Minister would not offend them for tho world. As this is a matter of tho greatest importance to the welfare of Otago I think it only right for both the press and the Ota.go Central Railway. League to take tho matter up and try to force tho so-called Lilieral Government to open up the country. —I am, etc., Landless. Blackstonc Hill, February 12.
