BOWLING.

TAIERI v. DUiYKDIN. The Taieri and Dunedin Clnbs met on Saturday, four vinlrs from each side playing on the Taieri Green and four on the Duuedin Green. Tho weather was glorious. The Taieri Green is now in capital order, and a, credit to all concerned. The Bunedin Green was also ill good order, save for the bare patches at Hie ends, which, owing to the great amount of 'play that goes on, are spreading. It might be suggested that instead- of sweeping the motile] from these bare patches and thus causing hollows, with the result that a dying bowl cuts some queer capers, it might be better to fill up the hollows by sprinkling fine aoil on tho bare patches. Bui reluming to tho match, it, was evidently not the Taieri men's day out, for they Buffered defeat on both greens. But » defeat loses all sting when a game is contested in a- friendly spirit, and the Taieri players are as pleasant after defeat as they are modeet after n, win. The Caledonian Club's Green presented ai busy scene on Saturday. Three rinks from tlio'Kaitaugata Club met throe rinks from the Caledonian Club early in the day, and before , this was concluded the players were mustering for the Hoslyn-Caledonian match. The green was in beautiful order, and very keen. This seemed to suit; the ICaitaugata players, and, os will be seen by the scores, they defeated the home team by 12 points. At the conclusion of play Mr J. A. Kirby .(vice-president) said a few words expressing appreciation of the enterprise of the Kaitangata Club in sending a team- to Dunedin. He hoped when the Caledonians visited Coalopolis they would turn the tables on their opponents. Captain Rutherford responded on behalf of the visitors, acknowledging the kindness with which they had been treated. A six-rink interc'mb match was played on the Caledonian Green between Roslyn and Caledonian Clubs at tho conclusion'of tho match against Kaitangata. Probably the h&t and the fact that they were taking part in their second game affected the local players, for towards the end they appeared to' tire, and the hill men got in some big score 3.' AVeir secured six on the fifteenth head, Throp seven on the nineteenth head, and Allnutt four -on tho sixteenth head. A coincidence was tho fact of rinks slapped by father and son accounting for much of the Caledonians' leeway, the Roslyn riien winning by 32 points. Mr ,T. A. Kirby in a few words thanked the visitors for their attendance. Mr Callan, in reply, referred to the hospitality with which the hill men had been entertained. The green was in capital .order, and it wns quite n treat to play on it. He invited Mr Kirby and as many of liis clubmatos ns conld attend to be present, at the opening of the" new Roslyn Green, an event expected-to take place early next mesih.
