A 'bus and a tram were both on their way to town, when tho 'bus horse swerved across tho [jam line. The tram dashed into the vehicle, and almost smashed it to pieces, ■ the horse being carried about 40 yards along tho. lino. Several passengers on the 'bus were badly, injured, and one 1 ■woman, Mrs > Foster, of Ponsonby, had her skidl fractured, and died shortly afterwards. A Herald reporter saw Peter Ganloy, the 'bus driver. Though he seemed to bo suffering eocsiderably, Gnnloy was perfectly clear as to what occurred. How did it happen? queried the roportor. '"Well," he said, "as thoro wore some improvements heing effected t-o tho. road, I was compelled to keep to the 'up' car line. I wae driving down thoro whon I siw a ' decker' coming up, and as there were carts coming up alongside of it I crossed over to the other line as quickly as I could. There was a cart abreast of me, however, and that impeded me,'and before- I could-'do anything I had to wait until it crossed, which it did as soon as I arrived at that part of tho road where the progressing improvement ends. As that was so, I was unnblo to cross over to the right side of the road at that particular spot, and I had to go down tha ' up' line for another 40 or 50 yards before I could do so. You 6ep, tha tramway centre pole was in tho road. Well, before I attempted to cross over I looked to see if a car -was coming, and, ••seeing and hearing none, I proceeded to cross. I was crossing tho down line when the collision happened." Where did the car strike tho 'bus?—"At the back, a little to the right, I think. I was thrown out towards the footpath; and, being partly dazed, I lay there Tor about 10 minut-es, when I was picked up and put into a cab and brought here." What happened to the horses?—"l don't know how they itrot on, poor brutes. I wss driving three." How many passengers were there upon tho 'bus?-" Six altogether, I think. The only one who was sitting in front with mo was Mr William Young, a carter, who resides in Ponsonhy. The others were all inside. They all got in at St. Heliors, with tho exception of one,"
