THE AUSTRALIANS AT AUCKLAND. (Peii United Press Association.)

AUCKLAND, February 12.

Tho match between the Australian Eleven and Fifteen of Auckland was resumed at noon to-day. The weather was perfect, and tho attendance numbered oloso on 15,000. Tho wicket was in rare condition, and showed only slight signs of wear. The fielding of the Aucklanders left little to be desired, but their returns wero not satisfactory. Con-sidering-that tho bowlers did not get much assistance from tlio wicket, their performances—especially Hay's—wero all that could be expected against suoh formidable opponents. Tho following is a summary of an unneoessarily detailed and minuto account of the play telegraphed:— Duff and M'Leod were the first batsmen for Australia, to tho bowling of M'Neill and Stomson, Duff sent the first ball from M'Neill to tho boundary, and M'Leod put up tho fourth to miid-on, Hay running in, hut failing to reach the ball. Three were scored off Stemson's first over, and 10 was on tho lraavd after 12 minutes' play. Duff late cut Stemson to the.boundary for 4, and, getting JPNeilt awov to lei; for the same number. 20 was signalled. At. 27 N. B.
