OTAGO AGRICULTURAL AND PASTORAL SOCIETY.

ANNUAL HORSE PARADE.

Tho A. and P. Society's horse parado, held yesterday at Tahuna Park, wa3 a pronounced success. The weather was bright and spring-like, and the show ground was looking very well. 'The committc© of the socioty, with a view to getting the. ground in order for tho summer show, has put down about 6in of top dressing, well manured, and already it has a good solo of grass. By November next there should bo a fine sward to add to the general attractions. The entry of horses yesterday was good, nioro especially in the draught classes, and as far as the three-year-olds were concerned tho numbers woro nearly doubled. In the aged class a number of homos Came forward this year which were absent on the occasion of ilio last parade. 'l'hc result, howevor, proved to be tho same, and the throo horses placed first f last year won similar honours this year. Mr W. Gardiner s Agitator is a claEs by himself, and was koing shown in splendid condition. Tho samo owner's Sandy Krsfcino was again placed second, whih Mr Watson Aljram s Dalmuir Prince was <111 honourable third. This horse was bought by Mr A. Dalglcisli, of Waimate, during tho day tor tho tall price of 500gs. Tho fourth prize-taker was a Hne: colt belonging to Mr J- 11. Mackenzie, of Pomahaka, named ljavon Graceful. Ho was ontored for the three-year-old class, but being too old by several months competed in the senior grade, and in spito of tho handicap of youth found himself placed in very good company. Baron Graceful is a handsome bay, and is exceedingly well bred, his sire, JJaron s Pride, having been responsible, for some 25 prize-winners at tho la.it Highland Society's show. lie. was imported to Australia by Mr J. E. Walker, of Wenibce Victoria, this year, and was brought to New Zealand by his present owner. As a coit ho gives promise of developing into a very fine horse, and should bo an acquisition to the draught stock of tho nrovines. The fifth prize-laker was Aitken Brae, who was in better condition than when shown last year. Speaking generally, tho draughts were a grand lot of horses, and it is doubtful if a better lot could bo paraded in any other part of the colony. The three-year-olds' were also a strong class, and 1 in deciding tlm first prize the judges had (o pit quality versus substaneo as far as llr Patrick's Woo Macgregor and Mr T. I,ikon's Heather Prince were concerned. After the horses had been very carefully scanned by Messrs Snowball ,and AVilkio, and" each had received a clean sheet as far as coundness was concerned, the verdict of tho judges went to Mr Patrick's horse. A filio colt by Crown Prince, exhibited by Mr John Reid, was awarded third. The Government horse Resolution was present, on exhibition, but did not compete. Ho i 3 a fmo stamp of a Shiro colt, although, rather out. of condition, and by-and-by will probably fco found in good company. Messrs D. Macdonald, of Edondale, and John Elliott, of Gladbrook, 'acted as judges, while tho position of marshal was filled by Mr ,T. Gow. The following is tho detailed result of tho judging:—
