SALE OF WORK.
The annual sale of work by tho XManesiitn Guild was opened by the Rct. Curzon-Siggera in St. Matthew's Schoolroom yesterday afternoon. The object of the sale is to provide funds for the work done by the St. Matthew's foreign service curate an the New 'Hebrides, the Itev. W. H. Edgell, and to more particularly) replace a boat recently lost in a storm.' The Rev. Curzon-Siggcr3 made a few remarks on the object of the sale at the opening, and tho ladioe in charge of tho stalls then lost no tima in starting to dispose of their goods, of.which! there was a very good assortment. — ' The following are the- names of the stallholders:—Guild work stall — Mrs CurzonSiggera, Masses Edith Hertelett, Esther, Fish, and Beanett; .sweet stall— Msse? Hart, Hazlett, and L. Hart; doll stall—Missies' Daisy ■Maxwell, V. Eailton, and Clothier;, flowor stall—Misses Ethel and Edith Lorie; refresh- , ment stall—Mrs Dowling, Misses Beatrice Farquhar, E. Farquhar, L. Eattray, and Sinclair. : ■ . .
The salo was' open again in the evening, when the schoolroom was crowded. Probably there never has'been such an attendance ia the room as there was last evening, and the great attraction was the production, under the direction of Mrs Henry Williams and Misses Lorua Eattray and Sinclair, of tho - operetta " Beauty, and the Beast;" in which tho chief characters .wereifilled by Miss Helen iGard'ner' Ifiss Ivy Hislop, Miss Flossie Sinolair, Misss Gladys Darling, and Misa Lily Hislop, with. considerable success. There was a chohis of. about 25 voices,- and the operetta , met'.with: euch favour that it has been decided, on reeponso to a request, to again produce it on .Saturday afternoon at 2.30. Capital, business was done,by the stallholders, and the outcome of the sale should be a very substantial sum tabids the object for which it wss held.
