HARBOUR BOARD REPORTS.

Tils following are summaries of .tho reports' to Dβ submitted- at to-day's meeting of the Hartour Board: —

Tho Works sad Finance Committees iccom-M(.-nd for payment accounts totalling £4305 83

Ed; ~-..: Tho Reserves Committeo recoinuiend that tho unsold sections be put up for annual salo at>the.samo upset rentals; and that the strip of land.fronting Ward street be cut up tad offered for sale.

The Secretary will report a3 follows:— Dredging: Good progress is being made with this work. The shoal ground below pile No. 24 is. nearly cut through; and the swinging . basin at.tho lower end of the Victoria wharf is also nearing completion. During tho part of laßt month that tho dredges wove working 26 loads, or about 21,400 cubic yards, were dredged and pumped into the Pelichet Bay reclamation, at a combined cost, including part of docking repairs, of Iβ 2d per cubic yard. The Vulcan-is now pumping through over 2500 ft ■ of piping, arid a considerable area, of reclamation is raised up aboye high-water mark. Improvement Works, Lower Harbour.—The - first punt load of. stone was discharged on the line of training wall on tho 22nd, and a second one on the 25th. Some'minor alterations havo to be nkdc to the chains'of hopper doors, when I anticipate fair progress can be made. Several shots havo been fired in the quarry, which, though not bringing down mnch stone, have shaken up'a large mass, which can now be barred down. Three line 3of sidings have been put in, and arrangements aro well in hand to place in the quarry one of the spare cranes. Channel above Harrington Point: Eecent soundings havo shown a considerable improvement in the! depth across the flat at this place, and, if -further sbnndings show that it is feasible,, I .would recommend that a course ba buoyed across this flat, so that H can be vised by vessels of a moderate draft; and, if possible, defined by lighted beacons so that it could bo v/orked at night. If this is done, I anticipate. that the most of the Union Steam Ship Com-' pany's steamers could use this course. I would also recommend that eight additional lights be erected in tho Victoria Channel. The harbourmaster concurs with these recommendations. Pilot Staff Cottages at the Heads: I find on inspection that sundry repairs and painting Sio required to bo done to the cottages, nt an' estimated cost of about £150, and I would ask for" authority to have this done. Broad Bay Jotty: A commencement has been made with tins work. The timber and piles are all on hand,'and a. few weeks should see its completion.. Sundry* repairs have also .been effected to the deoking of the Dunedin vrharves.
