CHARGES AGAINST A REGISTRAR.

AUCKLAND, March 21. In the King inquiry Mr Reed, solicitor, ashed if the commissioner could obtain Mr Donne's report tin'the working of Mr King's office. Mi Harden replied that the report would bo private and confidential.
A memo, .was read from tho Telegraph Department' stating that the telegram announcing the issue of the write wns received late on the .night of November 11, end delivered io the registrar early 'on Uio morning Of tho 12th. The registrar, who had i>reviously stated that ho recoived the telegram on the 11th, said this had licyi his positive belief until the prient moment. Mr Reed, acting for eomnlninantj, referred' to tho question asked of a witness by the chairman of the commission on Friday as to whether tho taking of a claim for enrolment to Mr. Masefield (tho Onpodtion candidate) after the issue of the Writ wa3 not intended as a trap. Sir Iteod said the newspapers' reports (the eorrectiisEs of which were not disputed) had given eomo'people the impression that Mr Hnsolden intended to condemn tho action, although he (Mr I?ecd) did not gather that impression. Mr Haselden said he did'not intend to cither condemn or approve of the action, and that perhaps "test" would have been a better word to use than " trap." Tho commission adjourned till Monday.
