The territory of the Sultan of Oman, tha capital gf which is Muscat, consists of an independent province in tho south-east of Arabia, extending along the coast line of tho Arabian Sea. Tlio Sultan, whoso effective rule does not extend inucli beyond , tlie walls bf Sluscat, has for liiany years been ih close treaty relations with Great Britain through the Government of India, which is represented in Muscat by a Political Agent and Consul. Muttra is the commercial siiburb of Muscat.
