MAJOR LOVED AY AND THE SCHOOL CADETS.
Major Lovcday continued liis work among tho cadets of city schools yesterday, visiting Union Street School in the forenoon and taking Albany S'traet School in tho afternoon. Tho Union streot boys were paraded as at North-East Valley, and put through tho movements described in detail in yesterday's issue. Major Loveday then took them into tho gymnasium and gava an address of about half an. hour's duration on. the duties of a soldier. He laid stress on tho primary qualification exacted of the recruit —i.e., that o[ obedience, —and then proceeded to deal with tho positions of officers and non-commissioned officers and the soldier's position in relation to them. Major Lovcday then proceeded to give, a preliminary lesson in Hag signalling, showing the boys first tho seinaphoro 6ystem common to ,tho navy and tho. Morse system adoptod by the army. This portion of tho address was listened to with great interest, although the restlessness of tho boys indicated that lunch time had arrived,. and that they were burning to _bo dismissed and to scamper homo for dinner. In tho aftornoon, as 'mentioned above. Major Lovcday visited the Albany Street School, and drilled the boys on the samo lines, addressing them afterwards. To-day he will visit tho ICaikorai and Arthur Street Schools.
