PERSONAL NOTES.
Inspector Dinnio, of Scotland Yard, has accepted tho position of Commissioner of Police for this colony, and. takes up the position, in June. Mr Alexander Armstrong is acting-gaoler in Dunedin, pending the appointment of a successor to Mr Phillips, who relinquished the dnties on SaUfTuay last. On the occasion of leaving the Dunrobin School to take up a responsible position under the Taranaki Education Board, Mr W. A. Ballantync, 8.A., was given a farewell social and presented with a purse of soveroips as a mark of the esteem in which he is held by his numerous Dunrobin friends. Miss Dare having accepted another appointment, the Naseby District High School Committee has recommended Miss Kale Faulka, of Ca-versham, for the vacancy. The members of the Dunedin Gaol staff made si presentation to Mr S. C. Phillips on Saturday, on his retirement from the service. Tho gift consisted of a dressing-case and a travelling-bag, the presentation being made by Mr Armstrong. Mf Phillips suitably replied.
