SUB-INSPECTOR DWYER.

TO THE EDITOB. Sir,—The announcement in your to-day'j issue of the transference of Mr Dwyer from Dimedin to Christchurcli lias como with a certain amount of surprise to b. great many here. It.is only some four months since he was appointed to his present position. Since then, I -hear, he has proven himself to he a, very efficient and capable officer, carrying out his onerous and irksome duties without fear or favour and in a. pleasing and gentlemanly manner. I have heard it stated on different occasions that he is' very popular with his subordinates —snowing both firmness and kindness to them.. Purses filled with sovereigns (they have a "soothing" effect) are quite the fashion nowadays; so it is to be- hoped some of our energetic and liberal citizens will take the matter in hand, and so give some tangible proof of the appreciation and esteem in which Mr Dwyer is held by a sympathetic number of the citizens of Dimedin. —I am, etc., St. Patrick. September 1.
