HIGH SCHOOLS BOARD OF GOVERNORS.

The monthly meeting of the High Schools' Board of Governors was held yesterday afterneon; jirncdnt—Dr Brown (chairman), Dr Rbsr.d. Mr J. li. Sinclair, the Rev. W. Hcwiteon, and Mr T. K. Sidoy. The Special Committee reported, on tlio authority of the ree-tor of the Hoys' High .School, that at least 34 boys had 'given in (neir names as pupils for instruction in freehand drawing, and recommended that Mr .1. Butler be appointed to teach for two hou« weekly, the class to begin next term. Mr J, Uannaj instructor in gymnastics, applied for six months' leave of absence.— The application wns granted, and the board agreed to cordially thank Mr Hauna, for the zeal and efficiency with which he has done his work in the school for.the last 17 years, and wished him a pleasant holiday. Mr M. Fraer, lion, secretary of the Schools' Demonstration Committee, wrote asking if the pupils of the High Schools would assist in the programme arranged for the Cale-' donian ground on the occasion of the visit of the Dulc3 and Duchess of Cornwall and York, ami alio asking for tlio life of the gyrnnai-iums' for the housing of the school children.—Thei requests were commented on favourably, and the-letter was received. • ■ A-committee, consisting of tlio chairman, and Mr .'Sinclair, wns appointed to mako arrangements for the lea/sing of the laud lately hold by Mr J.
