OTAGO CENTRAL RAILWAY LEAGUE.
Tho monthly meeting of the executive of the Otago, Central .Railway League, held last evening, was attended by Messrs. W. Barron (chairman), Bamet,' Card; Stronacli, Kemp, thorne, and lMhgate.' Mr John M'Kriy reported from Weddcrturn as to the progress of the railway as follows:— - . ' This being about the end of the Government financial year, I take the liberty ot writing to the league re the progress of the work's, having had occasion a few days ago to go right along tie lino from Wedderburn to tho llunuherikia Biver, I found that, with few executions', tho several cuttings between Blackstoiie station and toe river are well in hand! and gangs arc being put on the vacant euttin"s doilv. The navvies have all.been shifted from the Weddcrburn-EoUgh Ridge section, witli the exception of a few men, who are levelling The pliiWayere have been" at wqrit on (he fedder-b«rß-Roujgh Ridge Section about five weeks arid I estimate that the pkte 3 will be laid and tbe ballast cd;uio working about the 15th of April. Y.ou will understand .that the plates must be laid to Rouga Kidge before the ballasting can start, as tho ballast pit i, at HoiHi ludge. ' Mr Arnold, M.F.R., who was in attendauce, said he had not been able to-obtain the information ashed for as to expenditure of vote to end of finaneiui year, the reply from tho Government being that the department was very busy, and could not fiiid time to obtain, tho necessary figures.' Mr Arnold promised to serid another telegram, so that tho information would he ready for tho annual report. He also gave Fomo interesting details as to the present slate ami future prospects of the wor'. He expressed (lie opinion that the section to Blacketone Hill would he open, as he had expected, before the end of June. A vote of thanks was passed to Mr Arnold for. his attention to the Inuinesj of the league. On the motion of Mr Kempthorne, seconded by Mr . Stroiiadi) tho .chairman and Mr Uathgate were requested to prepare tbe annual report to he submitted to next meeting.
