The stewards declared the course fit, and the raca came off. Levanter was favourite at 5 to 1 against. Levanter finished fourth for the Grand National. His rider mistook a fence in.the blinding Bnowstorm raging while the race was run. Nine horses fell, and nine finished. The betting at the start was 5 to 1 against le« vanter. PIONEER CLUB'S SPORTS. That tennis has taken fresh life iB proved 'by the number of entries in tho events in' connection with the Otago Lawn Tennis Association's tournament at Easter. The privileges in connection with the.Taieri • Amateur Turf Club's meeting were offered for sale by public auction on Saturday. Tho inskh booth was secured by Mr HjAloxander at £10, the outside booth bv Mr J. Stenhouse, ,' of the St. Kilda Hotel, at £18; the refresh- ' ment booth by Mrs Bealson, at £4- 15i; and the race cards by Mesdam& Smith and Macdonald, at £17 ss. An offer of £60 wais made - for the gates, but was not accepted, the; reserve being £65.
