AMATEUR ATHLETIC LEAGUE. CHRISTCHURCH, January 31. At a meeting of the council of the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association, held tonight, an application was received from G. W. Smith to have his performance of 15 3-ssec for the 120 yds hurdles at Auckland constituted the Australasian record. Owing to ono of the timekeepers being prevented from stopping his watch by the crowd breaking through, the time being taken by only two watches, the application was referred to the Australasian Union, with a. recommendation that it be passed as the record. The Gore Amateur Athletic Club was affiljated to the association. F. Power and J. H. Power (Ohoka), and F. J. Loftus (Wanganui) were reinstated as amateurs. The application of M. J. Ryan for reinstatement was referred to the local officer at Wanganui, and that of G. F. Evans to the South Canterbury Club. At the Pahiatua races yesterday Master .Tack (£6 18s) won the Hurdles, Illumination (£1 14s) the Newmarket Handicap, Norine (£4 lis) the Onslow Park Handicap, Gipsy Queen (£5 18s) the Racing Club Handicap, Forest Oak (£4 4s) tl>e Stewards' Stakes Welter, Passion Fruit (£7) the Grand Stand Handicap, and Wee Guard (£3los) the Scurry Race. All matches under the auspices of the Otago Cricket Association fixed for to-morrow have been declared off.
