In addition to this list, 10 "emergency" men have been selected, and should anything prevent any of those already chosen from getting away on Monday, the substitutes will bo taken from this additional list. A parade is called for ab the Garrison Hall at 9.30 on Monday morning, when the toll will be called, and the men entrained by the 10.20 train for Ohristchurcii. At Oainaru they will be joined by the North Otago' section. Tho Invercargill representatives will arrive in Duncdiit by Monday night's express, and will go ort to Christchurch on Tuesday morning. Sergeant : major Towler will «o north, in oharge of the men, and will take them to headquarters at Wellington. The fact that the men have to go north on Monday has made it difficult for some of those whose homes are inland to go back to pay good-bye to their friends. As eoon as the final selection was made Colonel Webb had a number of requests for leave and for railway passes, to enable the men to return home for their farewells. As in the case of the despatch of the fourth contingent, great assistance has been rendered by sevoral volunteer officers in putting the men through the requisite tests, and the thanks of the Defence department are due to Surgeon-major Coughtrey, Captain and Adjutant Stronach, Vetoritiarv-captain Snowhall, Captain Chalmer; and Captain Barclay for the ungrudging way they dovoted their holidays to the work. A Wellington telegram says:—Fifty or 50 men now in Sydney will be added to the sixth contingent. . •- ■ Tho steamer that is to carry the sixth contingent to the Cape is the Cornwall (9000 tons), which took one of the Queensland contingents last year. The Imperial authorities will bear the cost of transport, which is stated to be very.much less than that incurred respecting any previous New Zealand contingent. A Napier telegram says:—A very large number of men offered for the sixth contingent, of whom 40 were selected, and these were weeded down by the riding and shooting testa to 15, which is the flumber to which the district is limited.
