HIGHCLIFF.

On the occasion of the closing of the HMiclitf School for the Christinas holidays a very successful concert'was held on Friday the 21st inst., in the Highcliff Hall; Mr A. otuart in the chair. The programme consisted of songs, dialogues, and recitations by the pupils, assisted by the ex-pupils, the iUisses Hail, Bishop, and Lochhcad. At the close of the entertainment tea and pakes, provided by tho ladies of the district, were handed round to all present, after which each of the pupils belonging to the school was presented with a handsome book as a Christmas gift. A handsome book presented by Mr Braithwaite was awarded to Jean Duckworth for the best attendance. The Chairman, in presenting the books, impressed 011 both pupils and parents the necessity of regular attendance at school, and announced that as an inducement in this direction special prizes wbuld be given next year for good attendance. A hearty vote of thanks was passed to'tho ladies, the school committee, teacher? and others. The hall was cleared for dancing, which was kept up with good spirit till ail early hour.
