MAIL ARRANGEMENTS'FOR NEW YEAR HOLIDAYS. Tuesdaj, Ist January, being a postal holiday, all mails usually despatched on that day will close on Monday, 31st, at S p.m. A delivery will also be given over the counter on Monday evening, from 7 till 8 o'clock. Sunday hours will be observed for Hit private box lobby. On Wednesday, 2Cth (Boxing Day), the office will be open at al; branches for one hour — viz., from B till 10 a.m. The usual desnatch of mails will be made up to 10 a.m., and one complete delivery will be made by the letter carriers at 8 a.m. !

REDUCTION OF POSTAGE. From the Ist January, 1901. the postage on letters and letter-cards for delivery within the colony or for United Kingdom. Canada, India, Capo Colony, and practically all other pieces in the British Empire, except Australia, will he— for each half-ounce or fraction thereof Id. For foreign countries rate will remain at 2?. d, and for Australia at 2d.

PARCELS. Postage on parcels for United Kingdom will, from same date, be as follows:— IV parcels not over 31b, Is: over 3lb and up to 71b, 2s; over 7lu and up to lllb. 3s. EXPRESS nELrVERY AND' SPECIAL MESSENGER SERVICES AVill also be established aa from Ist January next. The express delivery will cover letters and parcels not exceeding .lib in weight, for which an extra fen of Gd has been paid, and. delivery will bo made on receipt at this nnd the following offices:—Ashbivrton, Auckland, Blenheim, Bluff. The special messenger service means placing a messenger at the disposal of any telephone exchange subscriber on request being made, and a fee of 6d for the first mile and 3d each additional mile up.to two miles, or time payment being made, such messengers may he utilised for running an errand, ordering a c»b, delivering letters, small parcels, or any similar service.
