DUNEDIN CHOIIA.L SOCIETY.
"THE MESSIAH."
The Dunedin Choral Society close their season next Christmas Night by giving, in the Agricultural Hall, Handel's grand work, " The Messiah." There is no need to introduce the ladies and gentlemen who have been allotted the solos this Christmas. Miss Rose Blimey, the soprano, is well known by the music-loving community for the genial and courteous manner in which she is always ready to assist in any concerts that may be got up. This is the flrat occasion on which Miss Blimey has performed on behalf of the Choral Society, and it
is hoped that it will by no means be the last. Mrs Fanny Howie, who' is to sing the contralto SOIO3, created such a favourable impression by her singing " O rest in the Lord " in the performance of the "Elijah," given some few wcelt3 ago by the society, that those who can possibly aii'ord the time will not miss probably the last opportunity there will be of hearing this lady sing such pieces as "He shall feed His flock like a shepherd' and "He was despised and rejected," prior to her departure from the colony. Mr P. Caroliu, who has been entrusted with the tenor SOIO3, is well known lo tho Dunedin public as a most capable singer of this class of music. Mr V. Thomson, who takes the bass part, will be remembered as having taken a similar part on the occasion of the concert, given by the society in aid of the patriotic fund at the Sunday afternoon performance last Christ-inns. The chorus and orchestra have now been practising for some eight weeks together, and this Christmas we should have a very good performance of this very favourite oratorio.
