(Per United Peess Association.) NEW PLYMOUTH, December 21.

Last night a man named Palmer, a chemist, lately come here, went to the breakwater to see friends off the boat. He got out on the wrong side and walked over the wharf into the sea. The body was recovered about three minutes after, but life was extinct. At the inquest to-day a verdict was returned of death' from shock. A rider was added that the existing state of things at the wharf is a menace to human life. The Harbour Board should at onco widen the wharf, place movable posts and chains, and provide lights on the west side. There was only 6ft between the carriages and the edge of the wharf.

CHRISTCHURCH, December 21. An inquest was held this morning on the body of Weakley. driver of a brewer's dray, who met with a fatal accident yesterday. A verdict of " Accidental death " was returned, the jury adding a rider that they considered the road dangerous at the spot where the accident happened, and drawing the attention of the Sydenham Borough Council thereto.

James Thompson, a miner, aged 74 years, wns found eland in his hut on Wednesday morning at Middlcmaroh. Deceased had been unwell for some time previous to his death. Ho had no friends or relatives at Middlomareh, but was known in Dunedin. An inquest will probably be hold.
