MAIL ARRANGEMENTS FOR CHRISTMAS AND NEW YEAR HOLIDAYS.

January, being postal holidays, all mails usually despatched on those- days will close on Monday, 24th, and Monday, 31 Bt, at 8 p.m. A delivery will also be given over the counter each Monday evennig, from 7 till 8 o'clock. Sunday hoars will be observed for the private box lobby. On Wednesday, 20th (Boxing Day), the office will be open at all branches for one hour— viz., from 9 till 10 a.m. The usual despatch of mails will bo made up to 10 a.m., and one complete delivery will be made by the letter carriers at 8 a in. . Private box lobby open as usual. NOTICE.—CHRISTMAS CARDS, Etc. The public are reminded that cards, etc., enclosed in envelopes not entirely open at one end, are liable to be charged deficient postage at letter rates upon delivery. To ensure prompt delivery, letters, etc., for dredging companies should have the name of the secretary in the address. REDUCTION OF POSTAGE. From the Ist January, 190], the postage on letters and letter-cards for delivery within the colony or for United Kingdom, Canada, India, Cape Colony, and practically all other places in the British Empire, except Australia, will be— for each half-ounce or fraction thereof Id. For foreign countries rate will remain at 21c\, and for Australia at Id. PARCELS. Postage on parcels for United Kingdom will, from same date, be as follows:—For parcels not over 31b, Is; over 31b and up to 71b, 2s; over 7lb and up to Ulb, 3s. EXPRESS DELIVERY AND SPECIAL MESSENGER SERVICES Will also be established as from Ist January next. The express delivery will cover letters and parcels not exceeding 31b in weight, for which an extra ice of 6d has been paid, and delivery will be made on receipt at this and the following offices:— Ashburton, Auckland, Blenheim, Blu£E, Christchurch, Feilding, Gißborne,

Gore, Greymou'.h, Ilaweru, Hokitika, Invercareill, Lyttelton, Masterton, Napier, Nelson, New Plymouth Oainnru, Onehunga, Palmerston North, Port Chalmers, Thames, Timaru, Vt'anganui, Wellington, Wcstport. The special messenger service means placing a messenger at the disposal of any telephom, exchange subscriber on request being made, and a fee of 6d for the first mile and 3d each additional mile up to two miles, or time payment being made, such messengers may be utilised for running an errand, ordering a cab, delivering letters, small parcels, or any similar service.
