OTAGO AGRICULTURAL AND PASTORAL SOCIETY.

The monthly meeting of the Otago A. ana P. Society was held in tho Agricultural Hall board room yesterday, and attended by Messrs H. V. Fulton (president, in the chair), J. C. Gow, J. Ross, W. Souter, J. W. Blair, W. H. Taggart, R. Campbell, H. M. Driver, G. H. Gilroy, John Angus, W. Charters, J. Duthie, A. Douglas, W. Patrick, and A. C. Stronach. Apologies were received from Messrs G. Roberts, A. Johnson, W. Blackie, and J. Lethbridge.

A considerable amount of correspondence was received and dealt with. Mr "R. M. Turnbull, who represented the society at the conference of sheep-breeders held in England, wrote forwarding the full report of the proceedings, and stating that it had given him much pleasure in representing the society on this occasion. On the motion of Mr Charters, a unanimous vote of thanks was- accorded to Mr Turnbull for his acting as representative at tho sheep-breeders' Conference.

Mr A. Quertier, Mataura, wrote entering a. protest against the decision of the judges at the late Summer show, and enclosing a pedigree of the bull which bo exhibited. After some discussion, it was 'decided that as Mr Quertier's protest traverses the decision of the judges, it could not be entertained, and the secretary was instructed to refer Mr Quertier to the regulation relating to protests. The Tahuna Recreation Company wrote asking permission to use a portion of the park inside tho racing track for training purposes, which was granted on condition that the com-' pany should limit trainers to 12ft and put the grass in order when the training was completed.

Several letters were received from a number of gentlemen who acted as judges thanking the committee for the courtesy shown them while c.oting as such.

The Chairman drew attention to a paragraph in the Otpgo Daily Times in reference to this society joining the, Taieri Society and holdin" their future shows at Wingatui, and stated that several letters had been received on tho siibjcdt.—After several members hnd spoken on this matter, the secretary was instructed to renly to all those inquiring that there was absolutely no truth in the statement, and, so far, this society had never been approached on the'mat-

The Hon. Treasurer (Mr John Angus) submitted tho balance sheet of receipts and expenditure in connection with the late summer show, which showed a very satisfactory credit balance. Accounts to the value o£ J-838 3s lid were passed for payment. The Secretary of the Canterbury A. and P Association wrote asking the society if they had iixed the dates for their next winter show After some discussion, it was decided, on the motion of the Chairman, to refer the correspondence to the subcommittee appointed to meet the Dunedin Horticultural Society in reference to the show dates.

The Chairman brought forward the question of the dates of the various shows throughout the Middle Island, and stated that it would be of great convenience to the exhibitors and general miblic if some satisfactory arrangements could be met with in which tho various shows would follow one another.

It was decided to hold the winter show next year on May 22, 23, 21, and 25. The committee have already under consideration various new attractions; therefore, it is anticipated that it will, if anything, eclipse those held in previous years.
