(Received August 9, at 7 p.m.) The authorities here state that Major Waller, who was reported to have been killed after the first battle, is alive, and that a blackmailer received a reward for his head from the Viceroy Yulu by deception. HORSES FOR GERMAN TROOPS. SYDNEY, August 9. (Received August 9, at 9.15 a.m.) . The steamer Clarendon shipped over 200 horses for the German forces in China.
