SPEIGHT AND CO.'S ANNUAL DINNER.

The members and employees of Messrs J. Speight and Co. held their annual dinner in the Shamrock Hotel on Friday evening. Some | 50 persons weio present, and Jlr James Jfichie presided. After justice had been done to the repast provided by Host Coughlan, the Chairman proposed " The Queen " and other loyal and patriotic toasts. Mr Jahn Campbell responded to the.toast of." The .Army and Navy." Mr Peter Wilson proposed the toast of " Thu Firm,'' and referred to the manner in which the employers and employees worked together for each other's benefit; a fact which must have some effect on the success of the firm. Mr C. Speight responded, and, after thanking those present for the manner in which they had honoured the toast, expressed a hope that the dinner would be an annual affair. Ho regretted that-since their last gathering some of those present had passed over to the great majority. " Friends Absent and the Travellers was proposed by. Mr James Mitchell, who said he knew he was voicing the feeling of all present in regretting that Messrs C.° H. Greenslade, "W. Da-wson, and R. Grecnslade were not with them. Campbell was much appreciated. The toast of " The Host and Hostsss " was responded to by Mr W. Coughlan. The singing of the National Anthem aaid " Auld kng syne" brought to a close a function which had.been only too short.
