A.M.P. SOCIETY.
Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright. SYDNEY, July 27. (Received July 27, at 10 p.m.)
At the resumed A.M.P. meeting to consider the question of amending the by-law tti permit of the extension oi business, Sir Joseph Abbott presided, and announced Ihe result of the ballot on the proposal postponed from the last meeting as follows: — For adjournment to October 10, 13,626; against, 119,047. Mr Want came forward with a compromise. He proposed that instead of calling his protest meeting the present vote be allowed to go on, with the understanding that the directors would not take a confirmation vote until they sent out ballot papers, which obtained a clear "Yes or no" vote. Sir J. Abbott pointed out that they had an overwhelming majority, and must carry the amendment. The directors could afford to be magnanimous, and in order to avoid friction were willing to meet Mr Want. The conditional requisition calling the meeting for August 24 would be withdrawn. He agreed to a conference between the directors and Mr Want before the result of the ballot was made known. He then put the question of the amendment of the by-law i 80 voting for and 90 against. Sir J. Abbott demanded a ballot, which will be taken on Monday next. The proxy votes will be counted on Wednesday, and the declaration made on the Thursday following. All proxy votes are to be handed in before noon on Monday.
