The usual meeting of the Loyal Valley Lodge, M.TJ., .was held in the North Dunedin Drill Hall on Monday evening, N.G. Bro. M'Farlane

Court Pride of,the Leith, A.0.F., held their ■ fortnightly meeting on Wednesday evening at the Albany street Hall, C.R. Bro. John Hay presiding. 'After routine business, the C.R., tii behalf of the court, presented P.C.R. Bro. Harry ' Benfell with a P.C.R.'b certificate and neck-ribbon, in recognition of his past services to the court.' Bro'. Benfell suitably acknowledged the gift in a few appropriate remarks. Bro: W. Black read the balance sheet and auditors' report, which disclosed a satisfactory state of affairs.. The interest received from investments rno"rb""than covered the 'sick pay disbursed,'during the six months under review. The total worth of'the court is now over £3000. One new member was initiated. Court Enterprise paid ah" official visit to try conclusions at a friendly game of cards,.which resulted in a win for Court Pride of the Leith by fourteen games to eleven. The Lily of .ths Valley Lodge, 1.0. G.T., held their weekly meeting on Monday night in the Oddfellows' Hall, Albany street. The lodge was opened by C.T. Bro W. Hey, and one member was reobligated, while a brother was admitted on clearance card. Bro. L. M'Farlane, D.D.G.C.T., and officers of.the District Lodgn were received officially and cordially welcomed. Straws presiding, three candidates were initiated. :It was decided to send a letter to the Rev. Mr,. Sinclair thanking him for the manner in which he acted at their recent social. Bro. On Monday night, in connection with the King street Congregational Literary Guild, Mr G. C. Israel gave an " .Evening with Dickens." Mr Israel chose two of the author's works as readings, one, " The Cheap Jack," from a littleknown Christmas story, and the familiar " Bob Sawyer's Party," from " Pickwick."
