HARTLEY & RILEY GOLD DREDGINQi COMPANY. '■:':■■?<

TO TIIE EEITOE. . ■■...' '<:• Sib,—The following local from the Cromwell \ Argus, of 16th August, may be of interest just now:—" Reports have been current in. towa since Friday's wash-up,' that the Hartley mifl. Riley is getting it thick and heavy, and a ricord return is expected. But wlin knows?;. Nobody but the dredgemaster and the Dunediii'' shareholders." . ; V...

Mr J. C. Cameron, in Ms letter in ..tliis morning's Times, supports my contention thiit. rji turns should be published immediately when received. Ido not think there is very much, in the directors' idea of waiting for confirms!*/ tion by letter. The notice could be made to saj'*that tie dredgemaster wired return of so and so, and it would be understood that figures, might be subject to alteration when letter ad; vices arrived. Returns have frequently been published when some of the figures could riot possibly have been confirmed by letter, and tho shorter the interval before publication the less1 opportunity for leakage. ' i 'What caused me to write my former letter was this: On Monday evening I was told by a friend that Saturday's return was lGioz. 13.ii had it from a man connected with a business house, of which one of the heads is a director oJ this company.—l am, etc., ;
